Sustainability in Dentistry
Playing Our Part
As a dental group we understand we all have a role to play in providing a sustainable world and at The Dental Design Studio we have made a commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and implement measures that ensure going forward the dentistry we provide has as little environmental impact as possible.
Here are some of the commitments we have made to reduce our carbon footprint, over the next 3 years:
Digital Dentistry
We aim to eliminate the use of silicone impression waste using digital scanning in all of our practices. This involves a capital expenditure to secure the latest technology that will not only reduce waste but improve the patient experience.
Recycling Commitment
Providing containers at the practice so that wastepaper and plastics can be recycled. Working with suppliers to ensure they are also playing their part to reduce packaging waste.
Cleaning Products
To use products such as toilet and floor cleaners which are ecofriendly and reduce the use of harsh chemicals.
Energy Use
As well as turning off practice lights in rooms not being used, we have made the commitment to ensure our energy comes from renewable sources. Sending patient reminders by text and email reduces the amount of paper waste produced.
Procurement
When buying new computers and dental equipment, ensuring that they are the most energy efficient.
Dental Materials
Where possible using materials where the packaging can be recycled. Reducing the number of orders placed with suppliers to once a month to reduce transport emissions and packaging.
Green Areas
Many practices have courtyards and parking areas. By planting wild flowers and shrubs we create an area for bees and insects to preserve urban ecosystems. We are committing to planting a tree for each patient who has a dental implant or clear aligner treatment.
Travel to the Practice
Encouraging patients and staff to use public transport, walk, travel by bike and car share when visiting the practice.
Dental Treatments
Offering our patients amalgam free alternatives such as composite fillings to help reduce future amalgam waste.
